On May 15, 2006 representatives from
the Friends of the St. Croix Headwaters (FOTSCH), Gordon/St. Croix Flowage
Association (GSCFA), Upper St. Croix Lake Association (USCLA), River
Alliance of Wisconsin (RAW), Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR),
and UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE) met at a meeting hosted by John Haack (UW-Extension,
St. Croix Basin Educator) to initiate this planning effort.
The 1995-2004 Upper St. Croix - Eau Claire Rivers Priority Watershed
Project was discussed as a foundation for current planning and monitoring
activities. A map showing project boundaries is available
here (requires
Acrobat Reader).
The priority watershed was divided into five subwatersheds: Upper St.
Croix Lake (USC), St. Croix River (SCR), Ox Creek (OXC), Eau Claire River
(ECR), and St. Croix Flowage (SCR).
The attendees discussed their perception of current issues and problems
affecting the watershed and its major water bodies. Priorities were
assigned by having attendees vote for their four top selections. A
list of these priorities can be seen
here.
It can also be downloaded for printing
here (requires Acrobat
Reader).
The next planning meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 24th
at 5:00 PM at the
Solon Springs Community Center.
