 Discussion Agenda

  1. Welcome and Introductions

  1. Objective:  Pursue creation of a "friends-type" river-focused organization by finding three or more volunteers for a Steering Committee.

  1. Friends of the St. Croix Headwaters (FOTSCH) group: a river-focused organization with a stewardship mission and “mini-basin” perspective that works in partnership with other stake-holder organizations to help protect and preserve the St. Croix River headwaters area.

  1. Brief management history of St. Croix River segment upstream from the Gordon Flowage.

  1. Citizen-based stream water-quality monitoring.  Presentation of Water Action Volunteers (WAV) standardized approach by John Haack and Kris Stepenuck.

  1. Possible friends group activities:

  • Support of effort to achieve "outstanding water resource" (ORW) classification for the above river segment.

  • Water-quality monitoring

  • “Meet the river” events

  • Endangered species inventory (Sensitive Area Designation Report)

  • Invasive species identification and removal

  • River clean-up

  • Liaison with other northern Wisconsin river groups

  • Friends group web site
