The Outstanding Resource Water (ORW) protective classification has been recommended by the DNR for five rivers which flow in/through Douglas County:

•  St. Croix River headwaters segment (between Upper St. Croix Lake and St. Croix Flowage at Gordon)

•  Amnicon River

•  Moose River

•  Spruce River

•  Totagatic River
