A Stream Monitoring workshop was held in Gordon on June 4, 2005.

This class and stream-side session was provided by the Water Action Volunteer (WAV) staff to train citizen water action volunteers to measure six important elements of stream/river health in a standardized manner: dissolved oxygen, temperature, turbidity, stream flow, stream habitat, and stream macroinvertebrate diversity.

Kris Stepenuck, WAV educator, provides overview of monitoring program.

Class assembles D-nets for biotic survey.

Volunteers meet at stream-side site on Eau Claire River (near confluence with St. Croix).

Class discussing process of habitat assessment.

Volunteers measuring 20 foot section to be used for calculating stream flow.

Volunteers measuring stream width.

Class conducts stream flow measurement.

Jeremy Williamson demonstrates an electronic alternative to determining stream velocity through calculations.

Bob Gile demonstrates use of D-net to collect biotic samples.

Class practicing dissolved oxygen meaurements.

Volunteers identify macroinvertebrates.
