Canoe/Kayak Trip on May 6th
A canoe/kayak trip down the St. Croix River headwaters
segment (between Upper St. Croix Lake and the Gordon Flowage) was held on
May 6, 2005. It was co-hosted by the Friends
of the St. Croix Headwaters and the Wisconsin St. Croix Basin Partner Team.
Local citizens, the DNR,
UW-Extension, the River Alliance of Wisconsin, UW-Stevens Point Center for
Watershed Science and Education, the National Park
Service, West Wisconsin Land Trust, and the Friends of the St. Croix
Headwaters were all represented.
The main purpose of the trip was to determine specific sites for
a 2005 summer water-quality monitoring program.
FOTSCH thanks the Natural Resource Foundation's C.D.
Besadny Conservation Grant Program and the Citizen-based Monitoring
Partnership Program for funding to purchase water-quality monitoring
equipment.
